Matthew Donovan

I have recently taken some time away from technology to consider career options. During that time I obtained a PGCE in Modern Languages and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

I am considering a return to technology and I'm looking for opportunities in ethical IT, Open Source and Tech For Good in third sector or not-for-profit projects and programmes.

I have successfully managed global teams to deliver complex technology at pace to thousands of users. I help people to adopt new ways of working, collaborate more holistically, and manage change in fast-evolving environments.

I'm currently looking at the increasing potential of Swiss & EU Cloud & SaaS providers for clients who may be rethinking their strategies based on open source alternatives for operating systems and collaboration platforms to strengthen their data sovereignty and increase compliance with legislation such as GDPR and the European Data Act.

I have recently moved my cloud storage, emails and calendars off US "big tech" to smaller EU and Swiss-based providers.

I am developing my knowledge of Linux on older or lower-end hardware that won't make the cut to Windows 11 to avoid landfill. I'm particularly interested in Linux distributions such as Linux Lite, Xubuntu and Lubuntu.

I am a strong advocate of mentoring, knowledge capture & transfer. I mentor undergrads, post-grads and young professionals starting their careers.

Outside work, I provide advice and support to colleagues and friends, notably in mobile (e.g. MVNOs, Roaming), cloud storage & solutions, VOIP and collaboration tools.

I provide linguistic support to professional translators and communicators in domains such as IT, telecommunications and technology in general.
